Trying to find Floyd W Winemiller b. Apr 6, 1882 West Virginia?

I am looking for the parents of Floyd W. Winemiller. He was born about 1882 according to information I have found in the census. I have only been able to find him with his wife, Annie Humphrey with children Roscoe and Reta (or Rettie) in the 1920 census

Source Citation: Year: 1920;Census Place: Coal, Harrison, West Virginia; Roll: T625_1956; Page: 1B; Enumeration District: 69; Image: 589.

I also found him in the WWI draft cards with a birthdate of April 6, 1882. Wife Anna was listed as his nearest relative.

I can not seem to locate the Floyd Winemiller family in 1930.

His daughter, Rettie (also known as Reta) married James Junior Nicholson on MArch 11, 1937 in Harrison county, West Virginia.

I was able to find a Floyd W. Winemiller in the 1900 census, but this Floyd W. was born about 1890 which is an eight year discrepancy with the Floyd I am looking for.

Can anyone out there find him in ANY census other than 1920? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The 1920 census shows him working on the railroad. I'd start by checking with the Railroad Retirement Board on Rush St. in Chicago to see what records they have on him.

I'm also a little dubious about the Floyd who is the son of George and Marinda. Main reason is that they weren't married until 1884 and to be off by 8 years in the 1917 draft registration was major. The towns were small and the draft board would have known if there was a 27 year old registering as a 35 year old. Here's the marriage record for George and Marinda:

Name: GEORGE WINEMILLER

Spouse: MARINDA HINZMAN

Marriage Date: 6 Nov 1884

County: Upshur

State: WV

Just as interesting, though, is that there's a 15 year difference between George and Marinda. The kids in the 1900 census were, on the most part, born before the marriage. So I think most were his from a first marriage.

The Winemiller family seems centered in Upshur and in York PA.

I tried tracking them in the 1930 census through the kids. Rosco, though, was in jail at the time of the enumeration. Oops. Reta appears to have gotten married.

It's possible both Anna and Floyd died. But it's just as possible that when the Depression started, the mining area where they lived was hard hit and they moved on to better work with the railroad. So I'm still leaning towards an inquiry with the RRRB to see what they have on him and whether they can shed light on the mystery.

He may have lied one place or the other, or just have been bad at artithmetic.

If this isn't him, but you know some of his sibs, you might be able to find them on the site.

West Virginia roots too - amazing how many kind, witty, intelligent and devilishly handsome genealogists came out of those hollars. I'm in California, but my roots go back to Samuel Pack, 175x - 1823, in what is now Monroe County and what was then howling wilderness six ridges west of the law.

I had a third cousin in law who worked at the radio telescope there in WV. He'd put on his overalls, pack his lunch in a lard bucket, pat the redbone hound on the head, fire up the pickup and head out to probe the mysteries of the infinite cosmos. Just another hillbilly with a Ph D. in astronomy.

Having a closer look at the 1920 census, it states that George and Miranda had been married for 14 years at the time the census was taken. There is also a column that asks mother of how many children, Miranda answered 7, then the next question asks how many children are living Miranda answered 7. It gives George's birth month and year as May and 1850, Miranda was born in June 1865. Hope this helps.
