How can I find a specific word in a 500 page classic novel?

I am in the 7th grade, and I haveto read the full version of the Odyssey by homer. I have to then find 17 specific words in the book. I have already read the book twice, but I still can't find all of them. Is there an easier way to find specific words in the books. I tried to go to amazon.com and typed the word in for the excerpt, but it didn't find it. Is there an easy way I can find 17 specific words in the odyssey?

Well, amazon sometimes offers "search inside this book".. but with a book that's been translated numerous times such as the Odyssey your problem might be that your (dumb-sounding) assignment might be pertaining to a different translation than the one you've read twice.
Reply:first off post only the ones you can't find. Also look up the definition of each word at wikipedia, the definiton of each word might give you a clue as to where in the story some of these words come up if they are not very common.
Reply:I think that you should find the words according to where you guess they'll be used. e.g. for plundering look in places where people are plundering and taking stuff away from other people
Reply:Take three or four pages a day (or if it's homework, an hour), depending on how long it is. Don't even read it, just scan the page for the words. After finishing the book and not finding all the words, then read it SLOWLY. That's the best advice I can give you.
Reply:I assume you need to find the words in the context in which they are used.. hopefully not the exact page number. Here's an online copy of the Odyssey, you can (while viewing it) hit ctrl+f which will bring up the search button.. You can then search for individual words, and hopefully complete your assignment. As an example, I found the first word, plundered in a matter of seconds to find..

Now the Cyclopes were stronger than they and plundered

them, so their king Nausithous moved them thence and settled them in Scheria, far from all other people.
Reply:Go to this link it is a pdf form of your story

When the pdf document loads click on the binocular icon near the top. It will pull up a search box where you can search for the word. I tried a couple of your words, the first wasn't found but two after that were, so it may help you out.

You need adobe acrobat for this.
Reply:start reading :) I really don't think theres an easier way, seems like a weird assignment.. but you could search the web for more amazon.com like engines Good Luck!
Reply:You can find the whole text online here:

Then just press Crtl + F and insert the word you want to find in the search window.

BTW: That's a pretty stupid task your teacher has come up. There are definitely better ways to make someone enjoy reading.
