Find Empirical Formula From Molecular Formula?

okay, I understand how to and can find the molecular formula from the empirical formula, and I can also find the molecular formula from the % composition...

I cannot however find out how to do in backwards, and find the empirical formula from the molecular.

can you give me examples, like what is the empirical formula of the following molecular formulas:

C6 H12 O6

C12 H4 Cl4 O2

Find Empirical Formula From Molecular Formula?
ok well in order to find E.F from M.F, simplify the subscrips.

step 1:find the molar mass

step 2: divide molar mass of molecular formula by the molar mass of emprical formula

step 3: multiply subscripts by the value ..HOPE THIS HELPS..
Reply:The empirical formula is the smallest whole number ratio possible.

C6H12O6

Notice that all three subscripts can be divided by 6? So divide them by 6 and you get CH2O which is the empirical formula.

C12H4Cl4O2

Notice that all the subscripts can be divided by 2? So divide by two and you get C6H2Cl2O which is the empirical formula.
Reply:emperical formula is the simplest whole number ratio between the atoms of a compound. All the ionic compounds are represented by this formula.

emperical formula of C6 H12 O6 is CH2O

6:12:6

1:2:1

the simplest whole number between its atoms is 1:2:1

emperical formula of C12 H4 Cl4 O2 is C6 H2 Cl2 O

12:4:4:6

6:2:2:1
