I cant find a decently priced 2gb ram on single stick for asus mobo wid 4 g supported but only 2 slots?WHATNOW

I Have a prob... i am upgrading ma pc to a intel core 2 duo e6600. I am realy tyte on ma buget so i found a ideal mobo of asus on the net costing 65 to 70 $ supports the core 2 and 4 gb ram .... i want 4 gb ram or atleast 3 ....... NOw the crazy part iz how do i get 4 to 3 gb in a 2 slot MOBO??. only thing i can do is find a single 2 gb ram stick and fit two of them or 2gb + 1gb for 3 gb ram........ NOW THE QUESTION IZ%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; WHERE TO I FIND A DECENTLY PRICED 2 GB on single STICK.... i want 240 pin ram.... AND WHY THE HEAK I CANT FIND 2 GB ram on the kingston site....?... they r one of the best memory makers and i cant find a 2gb single stick ram there?....

As Joe M stated, it is unlikely you will ever use more than 2GB of RAM unless you are either a server application running mounds of Cisco, or if you are an avid gamer and need better latency count for your RAM (which you will most definately pay for). My suggestion would be, depending on your motherboard, and if it supports it, find a good pair of 1GB sticks of Dual Channel Memory. Perfect fit even for a gaming application. I have been using (honestly...) two 512 sticks of Kingston ValueRam Pc 3200 for almost 2 years now, and haven't had any need for upgrade. Granted, my resources are normally all used with some games and applications, but as the saying goes... if it's not broke...


Here are some places that I shop for RAM... My suggestion (fundage allowed) would be the first on the list. Excellent RAM, not the cheapest, but tried, trusted and true to it's name.

I can almost gaurantee you don't need more than 2gig of ram for any of the applications you are running. Even if you have several running at once.

Reply:every time we upgrade the capacity of a machine, we pay the price for a few years. the price will drop eventually. when the 1gb sticks first came out, you could expect to pay 100$ for them. now they are around 30-50$. the 2gb ram cards are still VERY fresh. dont expect to find one for under 120 just yet
Reply:It would most likely be less expensive to get a motherboard with 4 memory slots--if you can find a 2gig memory stick-it will be expensive.

Reply:30 to 40 dollars? hes talking ddr2 here, i dont think you will need more than 2 gig of the fast stuff, there are kits on newegg for around 130, for 2 gigs
