How to find an apartment?

I'm trying to find an apartment for my fiance and I. We are both 21, and we are both college students in Pittsburgh. My credit score is 625, and I have good payment history and little to no debt, although I clearly do not have that much credit history. His credit score is 600, and he has much more debt (from college loans, of course). We are trying to find an apartment for the fall semester as soon as possible, but everywhere we have looked wants us to have a cosigner with our credit. We find it to be a huge slap in the face since we are both independent, and especially since I am an orphan. Cosigners are not an option. Does anyone know how to find an apartment in Pittsburgh that doesn't require perfect credit or a cosigner? It's just to hard to find a landlord who is willing to work with a possible tenant. Please help???

How to find an apartment?
Try looking close to college campuses. Most landlords are used to renting to college students and they are more likely to overlook things. Also, an issue may be your age. Unfortunately, most landlords have had bad experiences with renting to young people. If you guys have the transportation mean, you might also want to look out a little outside of P-burg. You might also want to visit the residential services/housing office on campus. Sometimes potential landlords will post something or the office may have potential leads for you. You may also want to look into sharing a space with other students. If you have a couple of them who already are renting a house or large apartment, the pressure for you to prove your credit worthiness won't exist since they already have the place. You can usually find roomate ads posted on bulletin boards in and around campus or in the school newpaper.
